Building Your Video Foundations - Messy, Brave, and Totally Worth It

Ever hesitated to press “record” because you were sure your video “wasn’t ready”? If you’ve ever stared at the camera thinking, “What if I mess up? What if it’s not perfect?” let me assure you: you are so not alone.

Confession time: Video overwhelm and perfectionism have absolutely slowed me down before. I spent years planning content, worrying about my background, re-recording, and letting fear of not being “good enough” shelve my best ideas. But here’s what I’ve learned on my journey (and what I want YOU to embrace):

Done is always better than perfect.

This week’s theme is all about building the right foundations and overcoming those initial video hurdles. I wish I’d embraced imperfect action sooner because every “messy” attempt has taught me way more than sitting on the sidelines ever did.

My Challenge And My Invitation to You

Last week I started on a new journey, a 90-day video creation challenge—yes, a real one, recording and posting every single day (even on days with a less-than-perfect backdrop or a less-than-dazzling no-hair day). I’m sharing my personal journey and real talk on feeling overwhelmed, tackling perfectionism, facing video anxiety, and learning that you don’t need fancy gear or even to show your face to start creating content that connects.

ACTIONABLE STEPS FOR YOU THIS WEEK:

Acknowledge Your Roadblock – Is it fear of being on camera? Not knowing what to say? Perfection paralysis? Name it. Fame it.
Batch or Batch-Not – Try recording 2-3 short videos in one sitting. You don’t need a script. Jot down a simple hook + a single point to share, and wing it!
Try a Faceless Video – Not ready for camera time? Create an audio-only video, an animated explainer, or a “how-to” with stock B-roll and your voiceover. (My favorite tool: Kapwing — check out my quick demo here!)
Hit Publish Anyway – Even if you think “nobody will watch.” Your people need your way of explaining things. Trust it.
